Kirkby Lonsdale

"I do not know, in all my own country, still less in France or Italy, a place more naturally divine."

(John Ruskin)

Still grand, and beautiful, and good,
And scorned the swollen raging flood,
Has Lonsdale bridge unshaken stood,
For many ages;
Though antiquarians, who have tried
some date to find, in vain have pried
In ancient Pages.

(A native poet, unattributed)
